Arthur Fleck, portrayed by Joaquin Phoenix, grapples with a split personality, embodying the infamous Joker, a comedian known for his lethal humor. In the preceding film, he committed six murders as the Joker. Now facing trial, his attorney, Maryanne Stewart (Catherine Keener), aims to leverage his dual identity in his defense, arguing that Fleck should not be held accountable for the Joker’s actions. However, Fleck dismisses her counsel and opts to present his own defense, much to the delight of the attention-seeking defense attorney, Harvey Dent (Harry Lawtey). During this tumultuous period, Fleck encounters Harleen “Lee” Quinzel (Lady Gaga), a troubled singer in prison who becomes captivated by the Joker, viewing him as her counterpart. Through her influence, Fleck begins to explore his own musical talents, transitioning from seeing himself as a mere comic to envisioning a persona reminiscent of Fred Astaire, a charismatic performer who captivates audiences.
